About

By TOMMY LEE JOHNSTON
A play about bullying, tolerance, acceptance and love.

Directed by Steel Beam Theatre Artistic Director Donna Steele

Mr. Jenks revisits his high school alma mater as a substitute teacher for a class of highly “Gifted” students.  Discovering the passage of time hasn’t erased his own painful experiences as a bully, he now faces a class of kids whose lives and experiences all too closely resemble those of the very students he taunted.  “Gifted” examines the many social issues kids face every day. Finding a place, a meaning, and at times a sense of self are all explored in this one act play.  Students, Principals, Teachers, and parents have all been touched by the message and issues “Gifted” delivers.

Performed by an ensemble of 6 young actors and one adult teacher, Gifted explores the impact bullying has on the bullied, the bullies themselves and the bystanders.
